Not paying attention to the health and safety aspects of being on the job could be a killer. Not using the protective guards on machinery can lead to the loss of a limb for example. Job safety is the concern of everyone including the employees.

Removing guards from the machine because they are cumbersome is a big mistake.
It is up to the Company safety inspector to ensure that all equipment has properly working guards and safety mechanisms. You are not doing yourself or your co-workers any favors by working with faulty machinery.

You may know how to work without the safety guards but what about the next person that goes to use that machine? It is your responsibility as a machine operator to ensure that all safety measures have been taken for its safe operation. If it is any less than perfectly safe, it is your job to bring it to the attention of management.
Employers who blatantly fail to protect their employees needs to be reported to the safety authorities. If employers are allowed to get away with this type of carelessness, the unsafe situations are sure to get worse. The same is applicable for the working staff as well. It is everyone’s duty to see that their working area is kept safe and secure. If everyone does their part in the work environment then everyone benefits.

A tense and unhappy workplace can take an emotional toil on the employers and adversely affect their mental health. Tension in the workplace can cause lack of concentration on the job, which could lead to an accident that might have otherwise not happened.

A poorly cared for working environment can cause a whole gambit of health problems such as asthma and breathing difficulties for example.

If every employer were to make a mental check of all the potential health hazards in his business then a great many accidents could have been avoided in the past as well as the future. Dangerous circumstances should be brought to the attention of the employer immediately so he can take positive steps to correct the problem.
It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that if any condition is evident that the environment they are working in is not safe, then management must be advised of this.

For example, you may suggest to your employer the need for proper protective masks that are applicable to the situation. This alone is a simple but very effective safety feature.
If the proper safety cautions are not in place for this situation then refuse to work with the chemicals or other dangers until safety measures are put in place.

Speaking up after an accident is too late. Being adamant about demanding a safe environment could save someone’s life.
